Can I knit an end into the back of the knitting from the mitre below? The instructions teach you to knit the tail into the back of the knitting - so no knots. Where there are tails left on a previous mitre you can weave this too - but don't waeve two tails at a time.
What if I need to join a colour mid mitre? If you are running out it is better to join mid row RS - right side row. The ends I would then sew in later along the line of the decrease.
Can I do this with all coloured knitting? No - it's only really good to do every stitch when in garter stitch, it will distort the stitches of stockette.

What do I do with the ends?
You can weave in the end as you knit the Rs - right side row - hold the yarn at the wrong side of your work with your working yarn and place it above the working yarn for 1 stitch, then below the working yarn for the next stitch. Keep weaving the end yarn for 10-12 stitches so it is secure, don't cut off excess until mitre is completed.
Make sure you weave in the yarn on the wrong side so it isn't seen on the right side!
